LESSON TWENTY THREE 30/08/2020
Welcome to Kidzone. Today is the last lesson of the series “How to Train Your Emotions” and the topic is “Joy”. Joy is more than a feeling. It is the peace that comes from knowing God loves us and God is always in control. We can have joy in good times and bad. Pray for our children to know true joy and to know Jesus as their Saviour.
Bottom Line:God can give us joy, even in the worst of times.
Objective: Kids will learn “When I focus on God, I have joy.”
Memory Verse: “I will be glad and full of joy because of you. Most High God, I will sing the praises of your name.” Psalm 9:2 (NIrV)
Scripture to read: Acts 16:22-34, Paul and Silas in Prison
Summary: Paul and Silas were thrown into prison for telling people about Jesus. Most prisoners probably would have been filled with anger, sadness or fear. But Paul and Silas were filled with joy – singing songs of praise and praying to God. Even in the most terrible of times, if our focus and hope is on Jesus, we can have joy and peace.
Activity: Have the kids make their own joyful dragons by drawing and cutting them out of construction paper. They can be as creative as they want with these, but make sure the word “JOY” is written on every dragon made.
Make this week’s lesson real: When something goes wrong for you, your family, or your kids this week, sit down with them and sing a praise song. Thank God for His love, and remind your children that God can give us joy even when things go wrong.
Here are some great discussion starters:
- Why were Paul and Silas joyful in prison?
- How can God’s love give us joy in hard times?
- How can we receive Jesus as our Savior so we can always have joy?
Quiz your child on this week’s memory verse.
Give us joy in good times and bad! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Thank you for your support and may God bless you all!
