LESSON SIX - 03/05/2020
Hi Parents & Carers,
Welcome to Kidzone online. This Sunday we continue with our – “Dive In” curriculum. If your child asks you to be their reading partner, we encourage you to not only say yes, but to work with them to plan a time and place every day in your busy schedule where you will read together. Encourage them to ask questions, even hard ones. Don’t be afraid to say, “I don’t know,” and help them by looking for answers together.
Bottom Line: When you start reading the Bible, read with someone who can help you answer your questions.
Objective: Kids will learn that it’s good to ask or write down questions to ask when reading the Bible. Kids will also identify someone they can ask to read the Bible with them daily to discuss what they’ve read.
Memory verse: Psalm 119:105 – “Your word is like a lamp that shows me the way. It is like a light that guides me.”
Scripture to read: Acts 8:26-39, Philip and the Ethiopian
Summary: When learning to snorkel or scuba dive, you usually don’t know how to begin. It helps to ask an instructor to teach you how. The same can be said of studying the Bible. The Ethiopian man read the Scripture but did not understand what he was reading, so he asked Philip to help explain it to him. When we read God’s Word we should not be afraid to ask questions. We can ask God and we can ask wise people to help us understand God’s Word better.
Activity: Have the kids make reminders to hang on their wall where they plan to read the Bible regularly. The reminders can be decorated however they like and they can write things on the page like: “Read God’s Word Today”; “What Does the Bible say Today?”; “What is God teaching me?”; “What is my Memory Verse?”
Make this week’s lesson real: Take some time to teach your child something new this week. Like how to ride a bike, how to make grilled cheese sandwiches. Ask them why it’s important to learn from others when we are just starting something new.
Here are some great discussion starters:
What was the Ethiopian eunuch reading?
How did Philip help him to understand the Bible?
Why do we need someone to read the Bible with us?
Quiz your child on this week’s memory verse.
Give us wise teachers to help us understand the Bible. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Thank you for your support and may God bless you all!
