LESSON EIGHT - 17/05/2020
Hi Parents & Carers,
Welcome to Kidzone online. This Sunday we continue with our – “Dive In” curriculum. The more scripture we memorise, the better prepared we are to face temptation, challenges, despair, discouragement, and all manner of obstacles. Make a commitment to memorise verses with your kids so all of you will be ready!
Bottom Line: Memory verses can help us when we need help.
Objective: Kids will learn that we need to regularly memorise more and more Scripture so that it is always in our minds
and hearts when we need it.
Memory Verse: Psalm 119:105 – “Your word is like a lamp that shows me the way. It is like a light that guides me.” (NIrV)
Scripture to read: Matthew 4:1-11, The temptation of Jesus
Summary: When snorkelling in deep water, it’s good to wear a life jacket for your protection. When Jesus was tempted by Satan, he was able to use the word of God to help protect him. This was possible because Jesus had memorised the Scripture. When we read God’s word, we should strive to learn it, memorise it and keep it in our hearts.
Activity: Give the kids paper to make a list of memory verses to learn. Have the kids and adults share some of their favourite verses and help the kids to write them down to challenge themselves to learn it.
Make this week’s lesson real: Let the kids grill you on memory verses. How many verses do you know off hand? How many of their verses have you helped them learn and retained?
Here are some great discussion starters:
- How did Jesus use memorised Scripture to avoid temptation?
- Why do we need to learn memory verses?
- What are some fun games or exercises for remembering memory verses?
Quiz your child on this week’s memory verse.
Teach us to hide Your Word in our hearts. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Thank you for your support and may God bless you all!
