Don't get disctracted!
It’s quite common for us to be distracted from the more important things in life. Distraction in the small things can impact the way we make decisions for the bigger things in life.
I am reminded of the story of the Apostle Peter as he did something no other man had done before him and perhaps no one has since. He walked on water. The books of Matthew & Mark tell us that the disciples were caught in a wild storm, thinking that they were going to die. Jesus comes onto the scene at around 3AM calmly walking on the water. Filled with fear of impending death and old stories of ghostly apparitions, the disciples thought they were actually seeing a ghost, except for Peter, who boldly addressed Jesus with, “Lord, if it’s You, command me to come to You!” Somehow, Peter hears the Jesus' reply through the howling wind and crashing waves, "It is I, come.” Without a second thought, Peter jumped out of the boat and to his surprise, didn’t sink. With laser focus, he looked at his target - Jesus. But somehow, the sound of the waves and the howling of the storm broke his concentration enough that he looked away from Jesus. This small distraction had a disastrous result - Peter began to sink. Graciously however, Jesus reached down and brought Peter up from a potential disaster.
The point in this scene is that a loss of focus, a momentary lapse of concentration or distraction can impact our lives greatly. The bible encourages us to “keep our eyes on Jesus. The author and finisher of our faith.” In a world filled with so much entertainment, knowledge, technological advances and distractions, it’s easy to lose track of purpose and meaning. So let’s stay focused on what matters the most and begin to experience a fulfilled life that God has promised us.
